Cinema and English - film 4 - AFOL, A Blocumentary

On the topic of hobbies, Jess Gibson's 2010 documentary gives a fascinating insight into the weird and wonderful world of AFOL, the Adult Fans Of Lego community. With fond memories most people will remember playing with Lego as a child, but some individuals never lost their love for this unique toy; their passion staying with them into adulthood, some obsessively collecting, building and engineering incredibly intricate, mindblowingly complex creations. Watch the movie to discover the potential of Lego and perhaps you will feel inspired to dig out your old set and see what you can create!

Cinema and English - film 3 - KONY 2012

KONY 2012 became a phenomenon on the web last week, and as such I felt it appropriate to share with you. It is a thought provoking and powerful film that seeks to make Joseph Kony famous, to bring his atrocities to world wide attention and ultimately bring this terrible war criminal to justice. But is this a situation that can be brought under control by simply arresting the man at the top? Or does it go deep into the unstable social-political fabric of Africa? Is it naive to think that a movie can change the world or does this film demonstrate that by using the technology we have to our advantage, we really can make a difference? This film will continue to provoke debate for many weeks.
